The University of Trier is a public university in Germany, located in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, and founded in 1970. Although its official founding date is 1970, the university’s origins go back to the 15th century, when it was established by decree of Pope Nicholas V. It was closed in 1798 and later re-established in 1970.
The university consists of six faculties, numbered according to their historical order of establishment. Today, the University of Trier has approximately 15,000 students enrolled in various programs. It has strong collaborations with universities in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The university’s research focus is primarily on European history and contemporary issues in Europe.
