The University of Marburg is a public university in Germany, located in Marburg and founded in 1527. It is one of Germany’s oldest universities and the first university in the world established by a Protestant church. However, the university has since lost its religious affiliation. It was founded by Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous of Hesse, whose name the university still carries today.

Currently, around 25,000 students are enrolled, with 12% being international students from various countries. The university offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees across multiple disciplines and is also a renowned research center. The University of Marburg is one of the few research centers specializing in Middle Eastern studies.
