The University of Jena is a public university in Germany, located in Jena, Thuringia, and founded in 1558. It is one of the ten oldest universities in Germany. Since 2000, the university has been named after Friedrich Schiller, the renowned German poet and philosopher, who taught at the university in the 19th century. The founder of the university was Emperor Ferdinand I of the Holy Roman Empire.
The University of Jena is one of four universities in Thuringia and a member of the Coimbra Group, an association of prestigious European universities. The university consists of 10 faculties and currently has around 19,000 students enrolled in various fields of study. It actively collaborates with universities in Germany and worldwide, having a large network of partner institutions.
