Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) – a public university in Germany, located in Munich, Bavaria, and founded in 1472. Initially established as the University of Ingolstadt by Duke Ludwig IX the Rich in the 15th century, it was later relocated to Munich in the 19th century. The university has carried its current name since 1802. Since its move to Munich, LMU has been recognized as one of the most prestigious universities not only in Germany but also in Europe.

LMU boasts a large number of Nobel Prize-winning alumni. Based on this criterion, it ranks 16th in the world for the number of Nobel laureates. It is also Germany’s second-largest university by student population, with 15% of students coming from international backgrounds.
