The University of Sussex is a
leading public research university, ranked among the Top 20 universities in the UK. It is located near Brighton, on the south coast of England.
Sussex is part of the "new generation" of universities, a group of institutions established in the mid-20th century. These universities are characterized by their modern architectural design, featuring large glass facades framed by steel and concrete, in contrast to the traditional medieval-style buildings of older UK universities.
In 1961, Sussex was granted university status by Royal Charter. It was also a founding member of the "1994 Group", an association of research-intensive universities that aimed to provide an alternative to the Russell Group for institutions that were not part of the UK's most elite universities.
The University of Sussex campus is considered one of the most beautiful in the UK, as it is surrounded by the South Downs National Park and borders Brighton.
The university provides students with catering services, as well as bars and shops, managed by the Students’ Union. For those leading an active and healthy lifestyle, the campus offers numerous sports facilities with excellent equipment. Additionally, students have access to a medical center and childcare facilities.
The Students’ Union organizes various events, offers academic guidance, provides advice on student life in Brighton, and runs clubs, societies, and volunteering programs.
