The University of Leicester is a public research university in the UK, located in Leicestershire. It was founded in 1921 as Leicestershire and Rutland University College.
The university’s establishment was funded by Thomas Fielding Johnson, a local textile manufacturer, who sought to create a living memorial to honor those who lost their lives in World War I.
In 1927, the university began awarding degrees from the University of London. In 1957, it was granted university status by Royal Charter, allowing it to award its own degrees.

The main campus of the University of Leicester is located one mile south of the city center, adjacent to Victoria Park, Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College.
The campus comprises several key buildings, including:
  • Fielding Johnson Building – The university’s main administrative building and home to the Faculty of Law.
  • Astley Clarke Building – Houses the School of Economics and the university sports center.
  • Ken Edwards Building – Home to the School of Management.
  • Percy Gee Building – The hub of the Leicester Students’ Union.
In addition to these, the university owns numerous other buildings and continues to expand its infrastructure to support student life and research.

The Leicester Students’ Union supports students' social, cultural, and sporting activities and is considered one of the best student unions among UK universities. It organizes various music events, invites bands, and manages more than 200 student societies, a student newspaper, a radio station, and even a TV channel.
