The University of Hertfordshire is a public research university, primarily located in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK. The university's history dates back to 1952, when Hatfield Technical College was founded on 90 acres of land donated by Alan S. Butler, head of de Havilland Aircraft Company. At that time, the college enrolled 1,500 students. By 1984, the institution had expanded to over 5,000 students and was renamed Hatfield Polytechnic Institute. In 1988, it became the first of eight polytechnics in England to gain the right to award academic degrees. Following the abolition of polytechnics in 1992, it was granted university status and officially named the University of Hertfordshire.

The university offers excellent facilities for studying, living, and entertainment. Its two main campuses, de Havilland site and College Lane, are within walking distance of each other.
The campus provides everything students need, including lecture halls and laboratories, student residences, 24/7 libraries, high-tech research labs, computer zones, astronomical observatory – one of the best-equipped in the UK, flight simulator and wind tunnels, intensive care simulation chamber, art studios and digital labs.
The University of Hertfordshire ensures a modern and dynamic learning environment for its students, combining cutting-edge technology with high-quality education.

In addition to academic facilities, the University of Hertfordshire offers numerous spaces for leisure and entertainment, including Hertfordshire Sports Village – a large sports complex located on campus, fitness centers and Weston Auditorium – a 460-seat venue for cultural and creative events.
Students can also participate in a wide range of clubs, societies, and events organized by the Hertfordshire Students’ Union.
