The origins of the
University of Greenwich date back to 1890, when the second oldest polytechnic college in the UK, Woolwich Polytechnic, was founded. Over time, Woolwich merged with several London colleges, including:
- Dartford (1976),
- Avery Hill (1985),
- Garnett (1987),
- Goldsmiths,
- City of London (1988) – under the name Thames Polytechnic.
In 1992, the institution was granted university status and received its current name – The University of Greenwich.
Today, the
University of Greenwich has three campuses in
London and Kent. The main campus is located in Greenwich, on the site of the former Old Royal Naval College, while the other two are in Avery Hill and Medway. The university's campuses are considered architectural landmarks of the UK, yet they are also well-equipped with modern technology. Each campus has its own library with an extensive electronic database, accessible from any computer on university grounds.
Additionally, the campuses offer fitness centers and sports facilities for football, basketball, netball, cricket, volleyball, tennis, and other sports. They also house laboratories and lecture halls. Nearby, students can find pubs, clubs, cinemas, restaurants, and shopping centers—everything needed for leisure and entertainment.
Accommodation:The University of Greenwich London guarantees housing for every first-year student. The university provides 2,400 places in student residences, offering en-suite rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a convenient location near academic campuses. Additionally, the university assists students in finding private accommodation.
