Royal Holloway is one of the UK’s leading research universities, renowned not only for producing highly skilled professionals but also for groundbreaking scientific research of global significance.

The university was founded in 1886 as a women’s college—Royal Holloway College—by multimillionaire Thomas Holloway, under the patronage of Queen Victoria. At that time, Holloway was not the first to promote women’s education. In 1849, social reformer Elizabeth Jesser Reid had already founded Bedford College, the first UK institution to offer higher education to women.

In 1900, both Royal Holloway College and Bedford College joined the University of London, which became the first institution to award degrees to women. In 1965, both colleges began admitting male students, although their focus on women’s education remained strong.
In 1982, a partnership agreement was signed between the two institutions, leading to their merger in 1985, forming what is now known as Royal Holloway, University of London.

The Royal Holloway campus spans 135 acres in Surrey, located just 19 miles from Central London and 7 miles from Heathrow Airport.
The Founder's Building is considered one of the most stunning university buildings in the world. It features two interconnected quadrangles with inner courtyards, a gilded chapel, and an art gallery. The campus also includes residences for 500 students, as well as a dining hall and restaurant.

Royal Holloway continues to expand and modernize its facilities. Recent additions include The Caryl Churchill Theatre, new student residences, state-of-the-art lecture halls.
The campus is equipped with library, computer and science laboratories, cafeterias and leisure spaces, pubs and bars, sports center.

The Royal Holloway Student Union organizes a vibrant social scene, offering a wide range of sports and clubs, concerts featuring well-known bands, parties and events, volunteer and charity initiatives.
