Bath Spa University is one of the most creative universities in the UK. Its strongest academic disciplines are arts and humanities, which is rooted in its history.
The university traces its origins back to the Bath School of Art, founded in 1852, which quickly gained a reputation as one of the best art schools in the UK. Today, it is known as the Bath School of Art and Design.
In 1975, Bath College of Higher Education was established through the merger of two vocational colleges—Bath Teacher Training College and Bath College of Domestic Science.

The modern Bath School of Education is regarded as one of the best institutions for teacher training in the UK.
