Anglia Ruskin University is a public university of innovative technologies. Its foundation dates back to 1858, when John Ruskin, a cultural critic and philanthropist, established the Cambridge School of Art. Over time, the school expanded by merging with other colleges and institutes, such as the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology and the Essex Institute of Higher Education, eventually forming the Anglia Polytechnic Institute.

In 1992, Anglia Ruskin was granted university status, but it adopted its current name only in 2005.
Today, Anglia Ruskin University is considered one of the largest universities in East England, offering programs across four cities—London, Cambridge, Chelmsford, and Peterborough.

The London campus was recently opened in 2015. The other campuses are located near London and have excellent transport connections to the capital. Additionally, Anglia Ruskin University offers a distance learning program.

In recent years, around £112 million has been invested in campus development, with an additional £90 million planned. As part of this expansion, a new specialized building was opened on Young Street in London, featuring state-of-the-art clinical laboratories and a Music Therapy Center.

  • In Chelmsford, the Queen’s Building has housed the university library since 1995, along with the Sawyer’s Building, which features the state-of-the-art SuperLab,
  • Lord Ashcroft International Business School – established later as a major center for business education,
  • Tindal Building (2005) – now home to the Student Union,
  • Medical Institute (2011) – offering postgraduate and doctoral programs in medicine,
  • MedBIC Campus (2014) – providing students with laboratories, workshops, and office spaces to support small business development in medical and engineering fields.
Student life at Anglia Ruskin University is organized by the Student Union, which oversees volunteer programs, balls, sports, and cultural events. Students can join various clubs, societies, and interest groups. Sports also play a significant role in university life.

The Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses offer excellent sports facilities for a wide range of programs. Additionally, Anglia Ruskin University provides students with opportunities to participate in local and international sports scholarship programs.
